Parks and Recreation Department Facilities
Glenn W. Ruppel Recreation Complex is just north
of the Manchester High School on Market St. It houses 4 ball diamonds, a
basketball courts, playground area, parking lot and concession stand. This
newest park was dedicated in 1992 and is the home of our summer baseball
program organized by the Manchester
Recreation Association.
- Seward Memorial Building
is located west of the pool complex on 9th Street and used primarily as
a meeting and community activity room. This building can also be rented
out for family reunions, anniversary celebrations and wedding/baby showers.
It is carpeted, air conditioned and handicap accessible.
- Community Pool Complex
is a year-round, indoor facility housing a 25 yd. length pool, a sauna,
whirlpool, fitness room, locker and shower facilities, sand volleyball
pit and a basketball court. The pool is located at 902 N. Market Street
and is open to the public on daily rate basis or by membership.
- North Manchester Parks and Recreation Office is located in the
lobby of the pool complex and is also the hub of the North Manchester Community
Service (a United Fund Agency) and the Manchester
Recreation Association. Phone (260) 982-4919.
- Warvel Park is situated on Market Street between 7th and 9th
Streets. Its 10 acres contain 2 picnic shelters, picnic areas with tables
and grills, a natural amphitheatre, gazebo, excellent playground equipment,
horseshoe pits, shuffleboard courts and the scout hall with kitchen and
dining area. The Scout Hall
can be rented out for family reunions, receptions and meetings. The gazebo can also be rented and makes
a lovely setting for a wedding. A new 2 acre addition, donated by Mary
K. Peabody, is currently being developed as a nature preserve with trails
and tree and plant identification.
- Frantz Park is located on the west end of town between Crestview
and Meadowdale Drives. This 1.2 acre neighborhood park contains playground
equipment and a picnic area.
- Halderman Park is the site of a former Civil War era cemetery.
This passive-use park includes a rose garden, the historic Thomas Marshall
birthplace which is currently being restored and a memorial display for
veterans and those individuals who were once buried at the site. It is
located at 603 N. Market Street.
